Following the killing of a traditional ruler, his wife and eight other persons on Monday by persons suspected to be fulani terrorists in Agbenema, Omala Local Government Area of Kogi state, the paramount ruler in Omala, the Onu Ife, Chief Boniface Musa (Ojogba) has asked military men posted to his local government area to vacate the land.
The call, according to Chief Musa, has become expedient in the light of “increasing evidence of complicity and refusal to intervene in crisis situations on the part of the soldiers.”
“Our community was again raided by fulani terrorists Monday evening and soldiers who were drafted to maintain peace in the area refused to assist us in repelling the terrorists,” the Ojogba said
“We were surprised when we approached the soldiers who were stationed at the Guest House at Abejukolo for assistance. “They refused to act professionally, as they used their vehicle to block our people from advancing to the troubled spot to help the victims, Chief Musa added.
“This leaves us with no option than to ask them to vacate our land since it is now obvious that “they are here to aid and abet fulani terrorists in killing our people and destroying our property,” he said.
“It is better for them leave so that we know that our security is solely in our hands“
Musa Edibo, the Onu of Agbenema community, his wife and 8 others, were on Monday killed while several houses burnt down by fulani terrorists in a renewed attack on Agbenema, Aj’Ichekpa, Opada and Iyade villages, in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi state.
The attackers who were said to be armed with sophisticated weapons hid in the bushes around these villages from were they launched deadly attacks on their targets.
According to the eye witensses, the terrorists’ mode of operation is to set the houses ablaze, open fire on the fleeing inhabitants, slit their throats, machete and cut off vital parts of their victims.
The traditional ruler, his wife and another person were killed in Agbenema community while the other casualties were recorded in the other three communities.
The Omala LG council’s administrator, Ibrahim Aboh also escaped the attackers guns by the whiskers.
Corroborating the Ojogba’s position, a community elder who craved anonymity said “it is clear that the aim of the herdsmen is to kill us and take over our ancestral homes. They have razed down Ojuwo Ajomayeigbi, Iyade, Agbenema and Opada villages so that they could use our land for their cattle colonies.”
“We want the world to come to our assistance before these fulanis exterminate and inherit our land. We have lost confidence in the security agencies posted to us, from their actions, we believed they have been instructed to adopt ‘siddon look’ while we are being massacred,” he added.
“Since the attacks begun, we cannot go to the farms even markets have closed. Hunger has come to stay on our soil. If drastic measures are not done to quell this mad killings by these herdsmen, food insecurity will take over our land,” he lamented.
The Nigerian military is yet to officially respond to the comments made by the traditional ruler while the Nigerian Police (state command) in Lokoja says they are awaiting briefing on the incident by the Omala Divisional Police Officer.
